Meet the Instructor: Alison Lake
May 02, 2022I went to boarding school in Christchurch, New Zealand. During the weekends, the boarders would fill the time discovering and painting flowers, birds, and insects to fill our nature diaries.
I really enjoyed this weekend activity, however, was never encouraged to learn more as the years progressed, and eventually decided that the academic subjects of math, english and science were more my pace.
I’m so disappointed that I moved away from creating, and always believed I didn’t have an artistic bone in my body as I got older, and a working career in finance filled my days.
A few years ago, I picked up a paint brush, and just played, with paint and colour, and it was then I realised – I can do this!
I have not put a paint brush down since and spend my time creating in my art studio at the bottom of my garden, which I converted from a garden shed.
I live in Australia and love to paint to some good Australian music, where I can sing loudly–songs like Great Southern Land, I still call Australia Home, Flame Tree and Working-Class Man are regularly in my repertoire, singing loudly as the kookaburras laugh, and the cockatoos sqwark.
One of my great joys is showcasing Australia, not only through art, but through colour and stories. This is a big sunburnt continent of many contrasts, and I look forward to sharing this with you.
My Hometown is: Gold Coast, Australia
